I was at work one day, as a bellman for a large Las Vegas hotel, when a man came up to my workstation to retrieve his baggage. As one of my co-workers was retrieving his bag, we stood there and talked. He asked me if the airport would be busy, I told him I did not know what it was like to get through the airport these days, as I had not flown in over 15 years.
I then stated, however, that I would be taking a trip out of the country in July.
He then asked me where I was going. I said the Philippines.
He commented, “you haven’t flown in over 15 years and now you’re going to take a trip that’s over 16 hours, and out of the country?”.
He then asked “Why the Philippines”. I explained to him that I sponsor a boy through Compassion International, that I have been sponsoring him for over 10 years, and I now have the opportunity to go there and visit him.
He seemed very impressed with this. He retrieved his wallet and pulled out three $5 bills. He gave them to me and said, “Here, this is for the boy”.
Needless to say I was quite surprised and said, “thank you”.
He received his bags for my coworker, tipped him, and walked away.
